Myths about Root Canal Treatment
Myth 1 : Root canal therapy is painful
Root canal treatments are no longer what they use to be decades age. We use the latest equipments, technology and anesthesia to make the procedure virtually pain-free. In fact, once you do the treatment it relieves the patient of any pain they are experiencing.
Myth 2 : Root canal procedure requires several appointments
Normally the treatment is completed in one or two appointments. However, more appointments may be required depending on individual dental condition i.e extent of infection and difficulty of root canal
Myth 3 : A root canal treatment may “kill” the tooth
The procedure doesn’t kill the tooth but in fact cleans and disinfects the inside of the tooth for it to heal
Myth 4 : A root canal is a costly treatment
Root canal treatment is relatively cheaper than getting the tooth extracted and replacing it with a dental implant or bridge.
Myth 5 : The benefits of root canal therapy are temporary
Results from a root canal are actually long-lasting. They relieve patients’ toothaches and preserve the affected tooth indefinitely. The final restoration or crown is the key to successful results.
Myth 6 : Tooth extraction is a better alternative to root canal procedure
Tooth extraction also requires time, money and would leave you without any natural teeth. In order to replace the missing tooth, the patients might have to undergo more expensive dental treatments like dental implants or bridges which would again require more dental visits.
Myth 7 : Root canal treatment has high failure rate
Root canal treatment has a high success rate when treated by a specialist in root canal procedure (endodontist). At NW1 Dental Care we have 98% success rate with our patients.
