Our NW1 Dental Care team has perfected thousands of smiles using Invisalign treatment in London.  No matter where you are in your Invisalign journey – whether you considering Invisalign or already started your treatment, below are some useful tips that everyone needs to know that will help during your Invisalign experience.

  • Wear Invisalign aligners for at least 20 hours/day

For your treatment to work effectively you need to wear your Invisalign aligners for a minimum of 20 hours a day. You still have 4 hours of freedom every day which should be sufficient where you can take them out for eating, drinking, brushing, and any other activity like contact sports. Also, you may choose to remove aligners for any special occasions but its best to discuss with our Invisalign team first as not wearing aligners for 20 hours every day can affect the success of your treatment

  • Always keeps Invisalign Aligners in their case

In order to avoid misplacing or damaging, your Invisalign aligners make sure to put them into the protective cases when you take them out of your mouth.  Also, don’t wrap your aligners in tissue as they may end up getting binned

  • Clean teeth after every meal

After every meal, you need to brush before putting the aligners back in your mouth. It’s not always easy to do but its recommended whenever you can.

If food gets trapped between your aligner and teeth it can cause too decay, staining and bad breathe. If you don’t have a toothbrush handy then swish your mouth with water and brush as soon as you can.

  • Avoid drinks other than water while wearing aligners

The aligners can get stained if you consume beverages like coffee, cola, or tea. Also, taking sugary drinks can lead to teeth decay or acid erosion as the liquid may seep between teeth and aligners.

However, there are no such issues with water and it will also limit the number of times to remove your aligners each day.

  • Don’t clean aligner in hot water

Aligners are made of plastic so although you need to clean them, avoid using hot water as that might make your Invisalign clear aligners lose their shape and become ineffective.

  • Don’t clean Invisalign aligners with toothpaste

As most toothpastes are abrasive they can damage your aligners and make them dull or less discreet.  You can keep them clean and sparking by gently brushing them in cold water or use a mild detergent.

  • Don’t throw away your previous Invisalign aligners

Keep the previous set of aligners in their case and store them safely. You should avoid throwing them away as on rare occasions where you have misplaced, lost, or broken the new set then these might come in handy. This helps to continue your treatment without a break until you get the new set.

  • Be careful while removing Invisalign aligners from the mouth

Taking out an aligner is very straightforward and you can quickly pick it up once start using them. Gently loosen the aligners with your fingers from the back of your teeth and gradually work your way to the front. It very easy and simple process so handle them gently to avoid any damage.

  • Wearing a retainer after the end of Invisalign treatment

It is important that you wear your retainers after you complete your Invisalign treatment to ensure the teeth don’t move from their desired position. It takes some time for bones that support your teeth to stabilize so retainers help your teeth remain straight.
