What are Anti-Wrinkle Injections or Botox?

Anti-wrinkle injections – AKA Botox injections – provide safe and effective treatments involving painless injections into targeted areas of the face to help in tackling the signs of ageing by making your skin look tighter and smoother, giving you a fresher and more youthful look. The procedure only takes a couple of minutes and patients can return to normal activities post-treatment. The results last anywhere between 3-6 months.

Wrinkle smoothing is one of the highly popular and in-demand treatments at NW1 Dental Care. We offer anti-wrinkle injections to treat and improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the following areas:

  • Forehead wrinkles or creases – the horizontal lines running across the forehead
  • Crow’s feet lines – wrinkles around the eyes corners
  • Frown lines – the “11 lines” between the eyebrows
  • Eye and Nose area

How do wrinkles form?

Wrinkles are a natural part of the ageing process as our skin’s ability to protect itself declines. Our skin becomes thinner, drier, and loses elasticity as we age. Eventually, wrinkles, creases, and lines form on our skin.

Another important cause of face wrinkles is continuous muscular contraction. The muscles on your face contract whenever you concentrate, squint, or frown. Continuous muscle movement causes ‘dynamic wrinkles’ which only appear when the muscle is used.

Over time, if untreated, with years of these frequent contractions these wrinkles can become ‘static wrinkles’ which are permanently imprinted on our skin.

How does it work?

Anti-Wrinkle treatments work to prevent the formation of static wrinkles by blocking the signals from the nerves to the facial muscles so that the treatment muscles can no longer contract, thereby allowing the relaxing of lines and wrinkles. This causes the skin to soften existing fixed lines and wrinkles and also helps prevent static lines from becoming established.

The treatment involves administering a series of purified protein micro-injections to into the regions to be treated. It disrupts the muscle memory in repeated facial expressions, thereby temporarily allowing facial muscles to relax, softening lines and wrinkles and minimising the severity of visible wrinkles. The reduced movement in muscles places less strain on skin helping you achieve soft, natural results and a more youthful appearance without affecting your natural expressions.

What to expect during anti-wrinkle injection treatment?

You would first discuss with the doctor the areas you want to treat and the result you desire. Before the treatment, your face should be free of any makeup and cosmetics. The doctor will start by examining the facial muscle positions, movement, and effects and mark the exact locations of the injections for accuracy. The anti-wrinkle injections (botox) are then administered into the marked areas using sterile disposable syringes which have very short super fine needles which ensure minimal discomfort during treatment

No anaesthetic is necessary as each injection will feel like a tiny pin-prick when handled with expert precision. Some injections are applied directly into the muscle and some into the area between the muscle and the skin depending on the response that is required to smooth each line or wrinkle. The number of injections depends on the no. of areas being treated in one session.

In the end, after administering all the injections your face is cleaned with a hypo-allergenic cleanser and the doctor will advise on any post-treatment instructions that need to be followed by you. The procedure takes between 15-30 minutes at most and there is minimal downtime so you can continue with the rest of your day as normal.

How long do Botox® results last?

The effects are not instant but will appear gradually as the muscles begin to relax. It takes around 3-5 days to usually start seeing the results, although it can be as soon as 24 to 48 hours. However, the potential full effect can be seen within 2 weeks. Something to keep in mind if you’re planning your treatment around a special occasion.

The results normally last anywhere from 3 to 6 months, after which the effects of treatment gradually wear off.  However, with continual use, longer-term benefits of wrinkle reduction can be seen allowing softening of existing lines as well as preventing the deepening and development of lines.

Anti-Wrinkle Treatment Pricing

What is the cost of lines and wrinkle treatment in London ?

Most clinics offering this treatment are referred to as Botox clinics in the UK and charge by area. In London, the average price of anti-wrinkle treatment for 3 areas ranges from £200-£400, depending on the clinic and location. For example, the frown lines are considered one area, the forehead a second area, and crow’s feet a third area. However, each successive area is usually treated at a reduced rate compared to the previous area Some clinics also charge a bit extra for men as they have stronger facial muscles and so require higher doses.

It is important to note that there are few places offering the treatment at ridiculously cheap prices. It is important to note that in this case, cheap is not always the best. You should ensure that treatments are carried out by a medical professional who is trained and experienced to carry out procedures safely and use only high-quality products which are not unregulated versions of the medicine.

Anti-wrinkle or Botox FAQs

Anti-wrinkle injections are typically referred to as “Botox”. Botox ( botulinum toxin type a ) is a prescription-only drug licensed for cosmetic use by medical professionals. It is one of the most popular treatments to help temporarily improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles on your face. It is produced from a toxin produced by the bacterium clostridium botulinum. Botox by Allergan was the first drug to use botulinum toxin and the first FDA-approved prescription product.

Botox is administered as a muscle-relaxing injection for wrinkle treatment that prevents the formation of new lines by relaxing the face muscles and restricting movement in targeted areas. Botox is applied via injection and is a quick procedure that can be even done on your lunch break with no downtime. Our dentist can inject a single site on the face, or several areas – it all depends on the results you want to achieve. The treatment can also be combined with fillers for extra-gorgeous rejuvenation.

Botox is also used in other areas of medicine and is quite widely used in the NHS to treat a number of different medical conditions like irritable bladder, muscle spasms, and muscle contractures in cerebral palsy.

The actual procedure is very quick and relatively painless. Most people describe the sensation as little more than a minor pinch. If you’re worried, talk to us about applying a mild anesthetic before treatment. However, post-treatment you may have some soreness in the injectable area which should subside quickly.

Botox is a non-invasive procedure that is regarded as safe and has been used by millions of patients worldwide for the last few decades as a great choice to combat wrinkles, approved by the FDA.

As an unregulated industry in the UK, it is important that you pick the right clinic and doctor. Many clinics or cosmetic places are offering anti-wrinkles injections at low prices, and we encourage you double check who is performing your treatment, the products used, and the reputation of the clinic.

At NW1 Dental Care safety is our priority and all our Botox treatments are performed by our in-clinic dentists (GDC Registered) having more than 5 years of extensive experience in providing Botox treatments in London.

The number of men undergoing anti-wrinkle treatment has tripled in recent years. Botox injections for male patients are quite popular and in-demand treatment at our clinic.  We have a lot of male botox clients and the treatment works the same way as it does for a woman. However, the most common areas for male Botox users are forehead, frown line (11’s between the eyebrows), and crow’s feet.

You are not a suitable candidate for anti-wrinkle treatment if:

  • The injection area is infected
  • You are allergic to any of the ingredients of the anti-wrinkle treatment solution
  • You are pregnant or lactating women
  • You have a neuromuscular disorder
  • Non-surgical
  • Fast and effective
  • Minimal discomfort
  • Relatively painless and require little to no recovery time
  • No sedation required
  • Smooths wrinkles and erases fine lines

The most common appearance in the areas is redness and slight swelling which goes down after a few hours. The actual treatment can take 2-14 days to develop. After which skin will look smoother giving the face a more relaxed, refreshed appearance.

No that will not be an issue. If you decide not to have the treatment again after it wears off then your face will just return to normal. In fact, there is a slight benefit of the last treatment you did already as wrinkle depth will be less deep by avoiding continuous creasing of that area for those 3-4 months.

  • After treatment try not to touch the areas as the risk of infection is increased.
  • Avoid heavy physical exercise
  • No saunas or face masks.
  • No lying down for at least four hours

Anti-wrinkle injections are relatively safe treatment when performed by an experienced doctor. Side effects may vary depending on the target area being injected. Some of the common side effects include slight bruising and pain at the injection site. Some patients might also experience a mild headache which normally goes away within 24 hours.

At NW1 Dental Care, during your consultation, your doctor will advise you of any associated risks.

The full results of Botox are usually observed within 2 weeks so its best to book your Botox appointment with us two weeks prior to your event.

With Botox, you can carry on pretty much as usual immediately after having the treatment. However, we recommend the following:

  • Avoid strenuous exercise on the day of treatment (the next morning is fine)
  • Stay awake, avoid lying down and sleeping for approximately 4 hours after treatment
  • Avoid/limit anti-inflammatory pain medication and any alcohol for 24 hours before and after your botox treatment
  • Avoid saunas, sun tanning, hot baths, and generally any extreme heat on the day of treatment and for 2 weeks if possible
  • Avoid make-up for at least 4 hours after the treatment
  • For some people experiencing any headache (which is common post-treatment) paracetamol can be taken
  • Do not undergo other facial treatments (like chemical peel, lasers) in the same area where you have had Botox for two weeks after treatment. However, it is fine to have dermal filler along with botox and they could also be done on the same day. Any doubts please check with our dental team.

Botox injections are normally administered from the age of 25 and upwards as it is not just for wrinkle smoothing at a later stage but also used to prevent the appearance of wrinkles or lines in the first place. People begin looking for antiwrinkle or Botox treatment once they start noticing deep lines and wrinkles on their face or their appearance while making facial expressions.

As a principle, at NW1 Dental Care, patients are assessed individually based on their suitability no matter the age and then treated for their concerns

The cost of Botox depends on the following factors :

  • Who performs the treatment – doctors typically cost more than nurses. At NW1 Dental Care all botox treatments are performed by dentists who are registered with General Dental Council (GDC)
  • Brand of Botox used – The type of Botox used also determines the Botox price. At NW1 Dental Care clinic we offer Juvéderm which is the premium brand
  • Location of the clinic: Botox in London cost will be more expensive than Botox elsewhere around London city due to the higher cost of clinic facilities in London. At NW1 Dental Care our Botox Camden price is less than Botox London costings in Harley Street or other central London City areas and this reflects the difference in overheads between the areas.
  • Experience of the practitioner – Typically the more experienced practitioner of a Botox treatment will charge more for their skills to deliver the best results as compared with someone will less experience
  • Dilution of Botox – We use the dilution as recommended by the Botox brand. It’s important to have correct dilution and there have been many reports in media of unscrupulous practitioners using diluted doses or injecting “fake botox” in order to offer cheap Botox.

Not at all, you can opt for dermal fillers as an alternative. You can book a facial aesthetics consultation with one of our experienced dentists who can advise which treatment is best suited for you.

Anti-wrinkles injections or Botox injections contain purified bacteria that freeze muscles thus it works by relaxing the muscles under the skin to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles caused by facial expressions.

Dermal Filler on other hand contains hyaluronic acid which is a protein found in the cell of living organisms and as we age we produce less of this acid causing thinning of the skin. So Dermal fillers are used as temporary volumiser injected into the skin to add fullness.
